Film & Photography Workshop with Colm Mullen
This film and photography workshop will explore the key elements of photography and filmmaking techniques.
Areas covered during the workshop include:
- Digital photography (shutter speed, aperture, framing and composition).
- Story develpnet for film.
- Introduction to sound recording.
- Introduction to film lighting.
- Creating storyboards and shot lists.
- Working as a film crew.
- The roles of a director, assistant director, cinematographer, camera operator, camera assistant, sound recordist and stills photographer.
Colm Mullen
Colm works as a visual artist, cinematographer and educator. His projects explore questions relating to health, identity, community, and place. He collaborated with visual artist Marie Brett on her film artwork LAST BREATH, which screened at The Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA). He was cinematographer on writer/director Frank Berry’s feature drama, I USED TO LIVE HERE, which was nominated for three IFTA awards including best film and won best first feature at the Galway Film Fleadh. Most recently, Colm was Director of Photography and Co-editor on the feature drama THE TROUBLES A DUBLIN STORY, which premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh 2022. Colm lectures in cinematography and screenwriting at Dundalk Institute of Technology and is the Artistic Director of the Louth International Film Festival.
